Welcome

Abigail (Sandberg) Proehl is a Minnesotan cellist whose adventures have taken her to Europe and back. As the site continues to be built, you can find out more about her performing and teaching, as well as other areas of interest or expertise.

Abigail was born and raised in Hutchinson, MN. As the youngest in a musical household, she couldn’t wait to choose an instrument and decided on the cello at age 9. While taking private lessons, she was enthusiastically involved with the local youth orchestra program, Crow River Area Youth Orchestra. After high school, she attended the University of South Dakota and earned a bachelor’s degree in music performance. This was immediately followed up with a master’s degree from Kent State, where she studied with Keith Robinson (Miami String Quartet, Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center). In 2017, Abigail married pianist Blake Proehl, and together they made a trans-Atlantic move to The Netherlands. While there, Abigail began formally studying baroque cello (an interest since her early years) and co-founded the period-instrument ensemble, Concordant Trio. Now she is back in her home state pursuing a DMA in cello and musicology at the University of Minnesota.
